Byzantine Weights, Circa 6th-7th century. Weight of 3 Ounkia (Bronze, 33x33 mm, 78.62 g), a uniface square commercial weight with triple-grooved edges. Long Latin cross between Γᴑ - Γ, all engraved in outline and within laurel wreath within scalloped border; all within two square laurel wreaths forming an octagram with punched circlets in its corners. Rev. Plain, with some adjustment marks. Bendall -. MAH -. Pera -. A carefully produced and beautifully engraved weight with a very attractive green patina. Extremely fine.
